- 1). Select a glove knitting pattern from Daily Knitter or Knitting Pattern Central, or use a glove knitting pattern of your choice.
- 2). Cut a 6-inch length of waste yarn. Thread a yarn needle with this yarn. Tie a loose knot at the end of the yarn. Set aside.
- 3). Cast on the number of stitches required by the glove pattern. Knit the cuff as directed by your knitting pattern. Begin the increases for the hand.
- 4). Continue the increases for the hand and thumb gore, which covers the part of the hand between the thumb and palm. When you have increased the total number of stitches approximately 15 percent, your pattern will direct you to set aside stitches for the thumb before casting on a small number of stitches.
- 5). Check your knitting pattern for the proper number of stitches to set aside for the thumb. Slip the required number of stitches onto the waste yarn using the yarn needle. This is the thumb hole, from which you will knit the thumb.
- 6). Let the yarn needle, waste yarn and thumb stitches hang free as you continue to knit the hand and fingers. When all fingers have been knit, slide the stitches to the end of the yarn needle, slip them onto knitting needles, and knit for the required number of rows or inches.
