- 1). Buy two pieces, 1/2 yard, medium-weight fabric, in your choice of pattern or color. When choosing the fabric of the organizer, you can go from simple cotton to classy satin. Just make sure that it is durable enough to serve its purpose. You can also use spare or extra fabrics you have on hand and put your creativity into action by doing some patchwork to create a one-of-a-kind fabric for your organizer.
- 2). Make a sandwich of the fabric and 1/2 yard of interfacing, by placing the interfacing in the middle and pin the three pieces of fabric together.
- 3). Sew the edges of the fabric together, leaving one side open. Reach into the opening, grab the edge and pull the material right side out.
- 4). Press the fabric. Ironing the fabric will stiffen the interface fabric.
- 5). Fold the unsewn edges of the fabric and press for easy stitching. Run it through the sewing machine to make a top stitch. Continue sewing around the rectangle. Close the unsewn edges with a double stitch.
- 6). Fold the fabric about 3 1/2 inches from bottom edge of the rectangle. Press the folded area. Sew the edges of the new fold.
- 7). Lay out the items from your purse, such as your phone, makeup kit and pens, onto the fabric strip to mark the width that you will need the compartments. Sew the pockets precisely at the marked intervals.
- 8). Put your items on the organizer and fold it in thirds so that it fits into your purse.
