- 1). Purchase some inexpensive plain white Chinese takeout containers from an online retailer or local discount or dollar store. Take the box apart and remove the wire hanger, taking care not to damage the box or the cardboard. Using box cutters or scissors, carefully remove the top flaps of the box.
- 2). Lie the flattened box on top of a piece of white satin fabric, cut approximately ½-inch larger on all sizes than the flattened box. The excess fabric is used to fold over into the inside of the box for complete coverage.
- 3). Lightly spray each side of the box with spray adhesive, and attach the fabric to the box, smoothing out any wrinkles as you work. Remember to leave enough fabric around the edges to fold in the unfinished borders.
- 4). Cut a slit in the fabric at the box corners, from the edge of the fabric to the edge of the box, and fold the fabric to the inside of the flattened box, securing against the cardboard with craft glue or double-sided tape. Allow the glue to dry slightly, according to manufacturer’s instructions, before continuing.
- 5). Fold the box back into its original shape, securing the edges with glue and holding together with clothes pins or binder clips until dry and secure. Allow to dry, according to manufacturer’s instructions.
- 6). Punch two holes on opposite sides of the box with a hole punch, 1 inch or more down each side, to attach a handle. Put a drop of glue around the opening of each hole if necessary, to prevent the fabric from fraying.
- 7). Thread a satin ribbon from the outside of the box, toward the inside through each hole, and tie a knot on the inside to secure, creating a handle. Decorate with flowers, pearl appliqués or other materials as desired using fabric glue or sewing from the inside with white thread as needed. Your flower girl pouch or box is now ready to fill to overflowing with petals, to create the bridal trail for the bride’s special day.
