- 1). Pull a length of yarn from the skein. Loop the yarn to form a large circle, being sure to leave a tail of yarn about 3 to 4 inches long. Pinch the point where the tail and the yarn feeding from the skein cross between your left thumb and pointer finger.
- 2). Insert your crochet hook into the center of the loop from front to back. Use the crochet hook to grab the working yarn coming from the skein, and pull it back through the loop. Use this yarn to chain 1 stitch.
- 3). Reinsert your crochet hook into the center of the loop. Grab the working yarn again, and pull it back through. Make a single crochet stitch. This stitch will be over the loop and the tail of yarn.
- 4). Continue to insert your hook, grab the working yarn, and make single crochet stitches until you have made your desired number of single crochet stitches or the amount of stitches specified in your crochet pattern.
- 5). With your in-progress crochet in your right hand, use your left hand to grasp the tail of your yarn and pull tightly (but gently) to close the loop.
- 6). Secure the loop by slip stitching the single crochet stitch on your hook to the first single crochet you worked. Your magic ring is complete and you are now ready to start your second round.
