- 1). Position the child's hand correctly by placing his thumb in the single hole and his middle, ring and pinkie fingers in the larger hole. His pointer finger should be placed on the outside of the larger hole.
- 2). Place a small sticker on the top of the thumb hole to remind the child that the thumb always faces upward. Tell him that his hands are not ready to cut until he sees the sticker on top.
- 3). Instruct the child to cut by opening and closing the scissors and pushing forward while the other hand holds the opposite edge of the paper.
- 4). Encourage your child to practice cutting by providing them with paper that has straight lines and shapes printed on it. Younger children will need to master straight line cuts before learning to turn the paper while cutting shapes.
