Free Projects Using Glass Bottles

    Flower Vase

    • Turn a plain glass bottle into a pretty flower vase by collecting and pressing fresh flowers and leaves and gluing them onto the bottle. Collect blooms and leaves in the middle of a dry day to ensure that there is no dew or rain on them that can cause mold. Place each flower between two sheets of absorbent paper, such as paper towels, and press for a few days between the pages of a heavy book. When dry, glue them onto the exterior of your bottle and fill it with fresh flowers.

    Fruit Vinegar

    • Fill your empty bottle with homemade fruit vinegar to give as a gift. Collect berries in season from the wild. Sterilize your bottles by filling them with boiling water or washing them with sterilizing tablets. Heat white wine vinegar to just below the boiling point, add berries and leave it to stew for a few minutes. Leave to cool. Cut out pictures of the appropriate berries from old gardening magazines and glue them onto the outside of your bottle. Use a spoon to put a few berries in the bottom of the bottle, and use a funnel to pour the vinegar into the bottle until it is full. Place a lid on the bottle.

    Shell Art

    • Turn a visit to the beach into a collecting expedition for materials to create a marine-themed bottle for your bathroom. Gather sands of different colors in separate jars and tiny shells that will be small enough to fit through the neck of your bottle. When you get them home, use a kitchen funnel to pour in different layers of colored sands and top it off with the shells you have collected.

    Candle Holder

    • Empty bottles make popular candle holders, but don't just leave your bottle plain. Decorate it first with old nail polish to create pearlized and sparkly designs that will reflect the light of your candles. If your old nail polishes have gotten thick, add a few drops of nail polish remover to the bottles first and shake it up to thin them out before applying your paint. Keep designs simple, such as abstract swirls or small flowers. Ensure that the polish is completely dry before adding and lighting your candle, as nail polish is flammable.
