- 1). Wrap the end of the yarn around the holding peg on the far left of the loom to hold the yarn in place. If your loom doesn't have a holding peg, insert a thumb tack into the end of the loom and wrap the yarn around that.
- 2). Number the pegs on the loom, with the side facing you having all the odd numbers (one, three, five etc.) and the side furthest away from you having all the even numbers (two, four, six etc.).
- 3). Wrap the yarn around peg one. Then, wrap it in a figure-eight motion around peg two, down again in a figure-eight to peg three and so on, until you reach the end of the loom or the desired width of your knitting.
- 4). Wrap the last even-numbered peg you want to use, then pull the yarn straight across to the opposite odd-numbered peg. Then, continue back across the loom in the figure-eight pattern, starting from the second last even-numbered peg, right back to peg one.
- 5). Hold the yarn in place between pegs two and four after wrapping peg one. Use the knitting tool or crochet hook to pull the bottom loop from peg one over the top loop and off the peg. Do this for all of the pegs.
- 6). Wrap the yarn around peg two after all the bottom loops have been pulled off the loom. Continue wrapping the pegs in a figure-eight pattern as before. Then, when you reach the last even numbered peg, hold the yarn in place and pull over all the bottom loops again, before beginning the figure-eight pattern back up the loom.
- 7). Continue in this way until you have reached the desired length of your knitting. Every three or four rows, pull the knitted yarn gently so that it comes through the center hole of the rectangular knitting loom. Finish the knitting at the opposite end to peg one and cut the yarn, leaving around 4 inches free.
- 8). Cast off the loom by taking off the remaining loop from peg one, putting it on your knitting tool or crochet hook and then taking off the remaining loop from peg two. Then, pull loop two through loop one, so that only loop two remains. Take off the loop from peg three, and pull it through loop two, so that only loop three remains. Continue up the loom in this way, until the last loop is on the knitting tool or crochet hook. Pull the free end of yarn through the last loop to tie it off and secure the knitted piece.
