- 1). Choose an old T-shirt to begin your project. The T-shirt should be soft and worn. One way to ensure this is to choose a T-shirt that has been through the wash many times.
- 2). Wash the T-shirt and dry the shirt on the dryer's high setting to ensure that the fabric is fully shrunk before using it to make a rope.
- 3). Iron the fabric on both sides and lay the shirt on a flat surface.
- 4). Cut the hem off the bottom of the fabric.
- 5). Begin cutting a 1-inch strip along the bottom of the shirt. When you reach the area of the shirt where you began to cut, do not cut the strip off completely. Rather, move the scissors up an inch and cut around the shirt again. Continue this process until the shirt is cut into a spiral rope.
- 6). Pull on the fabric to release any knots and to form a spiral rope.
- 7). Store the rope by folding the fabric rope as you would any other type of rope.
