- 1). Measure the height of the tank in inches. For example, the height might be 35.0 inches.
- 2). Measure the distance radius of one of the ends of the tank in inches. Assume a radius of 5.0 inches for the sample exercise.
- 3). Multiply the number "pi" times the height times the square of the radius to obtain the size of the tank in cubic inches. Use 3.14 for "pi." Completing the exercise, you have 3.14 times 35.0 inches times 5.0 inches times 5.0 inches which equals 2,747.5 cubic inches.
