- 1). Close all open programs and restart your computer. After restarting your computer, go to the Windows update site and click the "Express Install (Recommended)" link. Click "Install", and then review and accept the Microsoft Software License Terms. Follow the guided prompts to complete the installation.
- 2). Disable any security programs including antivirus, spyware removal and firewall programs if you are still unable to install Service Pack 3. To do so, right-click the programs icons on the taskbar and select "Exit", "Close", or "Disable" depending on the program. Refer to your program's documentation if you are unsure how to disable it.
- 3). Restart your computer and then go back to the Windows update page and download Service Pack 3.
