- 1). Identify the rundll process that is causing problems. You can do this by making note of the process name the next time a rundll error occurs. The error message will say "Error loading C:WINDOWS\ system32\problemfile.dll," where "problemfile.dll" is the name of the process causing the error.
- 2). Stop the rundll process. Do this by clicking "Start," then "Run," then typing "services.msc" into the run window. This will bring up the services box.
- 3). Find the rundll process in the "Services Management" box, right-click on it, and select "Stop."
- 4). Delete the rundll process. Click "Start," then "Run," then type "regedit" into the run box. This will open the registry editor.
- 5). Navigate to the appropriate registry key. In this case, you're looking for "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE> SOFTWARE> Microsoft> Windows> CurrentVersion> RUN." Once you've reached this point, a list of dll processes will be available in the right box.
- 6). Find problemfile.dll in the right box, substituting the name of the file that is causing the error as found in Step 1 for "problemfile.dll." Right-click on it, and select "Delete." You will be asked if you wish to delete the file. Select "Yes."
- 7). Restart your computer. Windows should automatically replace the corrupted DLL file with a new, uncorrupted one, allowing your computer to function normally and fixing the rundll error.
