- 1). Click the Windows XP "Start" button and select "Run." In the text box shown, type "compmgmt.msc" and press "Enter." This opens the "Computer Management" utility that contains Disk Management.
- 2). Click "Disk Management" on the left panel. Windows XP scans the computer for your hard drive settings and partitions. This takes a few seconds to complete.
- 3). Right-click the partition you want to set as your primary. Select "Mark Partition as Active" in the pop-up menu. Windows sets the partition as the new primary. Reboot the computer for the changes to take effect.
