- 1). Power down and unplug your computer. Detach all cables running to your computer. The Tips4PC website recommends waiting 10 seconds or so as the power leaves the motherboard before taking apart your computer.
- 2). Take off any jewelry you may be wearing and make sure your hands are dry. Wet hands or jewelery may pose a danger to you or your computer board if any components of your computer have a stored charge.
- 3). Unscrew the computer case. The screws for your HP computer are in the back of the computer. Most HP computers use generic screws, but some may use special screws you need to untwist by hand.
- 4). Slide off the computer case. The Computer Hope website suggests that you slide the side of the computer case toward the back of the computer; either the side of the case will come off or the entire case will be removed.
