- 1). Cut the webbing from the center of an old tennis racquet. If you do not have a racquet to use, stop by your local thrift store to find one. To remove the webbing, use a pair of tin snips or wire cutters.
- 2). Determine how long you want your insect catching net to be. Long nets can hold more insects and those you have caught will be less likely to escape while you are trying to catch more. A net length of around 18 inches is ideal.
- 3). Cut a piece of fine netting to 18 inches. Measure the circumference around your tennis racquet or simply cut the piece of netting to a width of twice the height of the racquet's head.
- 4). Fold the piece of netting in half, and then sew the open edges together on the long and short side, using a sewing machine with a 1/2-inch seam allowance.
- 5). Insert the head of the racquet into the remaining open end of the net. Fold the edges over the frame of the racquet head so that the mesh overlaps itself by several inches.
- 6). Machine sew through the overlap around the racquet head. You may want to sew around the racquet head two or three times to make sure the net will not tear away from the racquet.
