- 1). Use either regular-weight paper or construction paper. Adjust the paper so that it is in landscape (horizontal) orientation. Staple the sheets of paper together at both corners of one end.
- 2). Write down the words of the story, song or nursery rhyme in bold letters, preferably with a marker pen. Ensure that the words are written on the back of the first sheet and on the front of each of the following sheets. The text should be split into natural sections; sentences and pauses will help to divide the piece of writing, ensuring it is stretched out over the pages.
- 3). Add pictures to each page. Pictures can be painted, hand-drawn or cut out from magazines. Drawn or painted pictures can be simple or elaborate, depending on the leaning of the child. Magazine cutouts should be attached firmly to the pages with glue.
- 4). Glue the blank backs of each page together, starting with the second page. The back of page 2 should be attached to the back of page 3, the back of page 4 should be attached to the back of page 5, and so forth. Preview the effect by holding the said pages together before applying the glue.
- 5). Prop the book up, with its pages open, so that it does not stick shut. Allow it to dry.
- 6). Make a cover page, using a larger piece of paper. Fold the paper in half and place a design on the front. Put the picture book inside the cover. Glue the blank inside of the cover page to the blank front side of page 1. Glue the inside of the back cover page to the blank back of the final page of the book.
- 7). Staple the spine of the picture book to give it added strength.
