How to Remotely Reboot With a KVM

    • 1). Connect to the IP based KVM by starting the KVM client application and then entering the IP address of the IP KVM or opening a web browser and typing the IP address of the IP based KVM, and then press the "Enter" key. The Windows client computer will connect to the KVM.

    • 2). Logon to the IP based KVM using credentials for an account that has access permissions to the KVM and connected devices.

    • 3). Select a computer that is connected to the KVM from the list of devices displayed in the KVM client window. The remote computer desktop will appear in the KVM client window.

    • 4). Close all open applications that are displayed on the remote computer PC desktop.

    • 5). Send a "CTL + ALT + DEL" signal to the remote computer and select the "Task Manager" button in the window that displays. The "Task Manager" utility will appear.

    • 6). Click on the "Processes" tab, and scroll down the list of processes and ensure that each of the processes is not utilizing over 5 percent of the CPU capacity. If a process is using over 5% of the CPU capacity, then right-click on the process, and click "End Process." If a warning message appears, click the "OK" button. Repeat this procedure for each process that is utilizing more than 5 percent CPU capacity.

    • 7). Right-click on processes that are utilizing over 20 MB of memory space, and then click the "End Process" item in the menu that appears. Repeat this procedure for each process that is utilizing more than 20 MB of memory space.

    • 8). Click the "Globe" button in the lower left corner of the remote computer desktop, then click the arrow to the right of the "Shutdown" button, and then click the "Restart" item. The computer will then shutdown and restart.
