- 1). Cut apart the adult and children's jeans by removing the legs at the crotch. Cut along both sides of each side seam, so that you're left with eight flat pieces of denim fabric. Remove the back pockets from both the adult and children's pair of jeans by cutting around the pocket, leaving the back intact.
- 2). Piece together a rectangle of denim that is 20 inches wide and 34 inches long. Cut a piece of the cotton fabric to the same measurements.
- 3). Lay the denim fabric with the right side up. Pin the piping around the edge with the padded part toward the fabric. Sew around, attaching the piping to the denim.
- 4). Lay the cotton over the denim, right sides facing, and pin in place. Sew around the edges, leaving a three-inch opening for turning. Turn right side out. The piping should be positioned around the outer edge. Hand sew the opening closed.
- 5). Cut a 10 inch by 13 inch square of denim from the remaining fabric cut from the jean legs. Piece it together if necessary. Press a one-inch hem around all four sides. Pin piping along one 10-inch side, folding the ends in to finish neatly. Sew in place.
- 6). Pin the pocket to one short edge of the cotton side of lined rectangle, leaving a one-inch border along the bottom and side. Sew in place.
- 7). Arrange the cut-out back pockets next to the large pocket. Leave at least 18 inches of the top of the rectangle free of pockets. Pin in place. Sew around the bottom and side edges with a sewing machine and the top edge by hand. Your caddy should now be a rectangle with pockets on the bottom half.
- 8). Lay the top 18 inches of the caddy between your mattress and box springs with the pockets facing outward. Position the caddy so that when you are lying down or sitting up in bed, the pockets will be within easy reach.
