- Create a paper sailor hat from newspaper or craft paper. Fold the paper in half horizontally and crease the fold. Turn down the top corners until their edges meet in the center of the paper and crease the folds. Fold up the bottom edge to meet the turned-down corners. Flip over the hat and fold up the bottom edge on the other side by the same amount. Secure the edges with tape. Decorate the hat with craft supplies like glitter, stickers and markers.
- Form a cone-shaped hat from a 8 1/2-by-11-inch sheet of craft paper by wrapping one short side of the paper around to meet the other side. Pull the top edge down and around the side, leaving a point at the top, and tape the edge. Use brown paper to turn the hat into a puppy or black paper for a cat; draw on features like eyes and whiskers and tape on cut-out ears, nose and tail that stand off from the cone.
- Make a cut-out hat for your royal heir. Have your child draw a crown all the way across the paper; make it big enough that he can wear it around his head. Form a wide headband at the bottom and draw shapes, like triangles or crosses, that stick up from it. Cut out the design, bend the paper to form a circle and tape the edges together to make the crown. As an alternative, create a crown decorated with spring flowers, fall leaves or snowflakes.
