Instructions for Knitted Scarves for Kids

    • 1). Tie the end of the yarn around the side peg on the loom with a slip knot. The side peg will hold your work tight while you knit. Turn the rectangle loom so the side peg is on your left and it is sitting horizontally.

    • 2). Wrap the yarn around the pegs to create the first row of loops. Pull the yarn down from the side peg and wrap it around the first peg on the bottom. When working toward the right, always start wrapping the peg on the right side. Pull the yarn around the right side, under the bottom and back up the left of the peg.

    • 3). Pull the yarn up to the first top peg and position the yarn to the right of the peg. Wrap it over the top and back down the left side.

    • 4). Work bottom to top, diagonally toward the right of the loom. The third peg will be the second bottom peg and the fourth will be the second top peg. Always begin wrapping the right side of each peg, whether you are working on the top or bottom. Wrap as many pairs of pegs as needed to create the desired width of your child's scarf. The more pegs, the wider it will be. Wrap a minimum of six pairs of pegs.

    • 5). Push the loops on the pegs to the bottom to make room for a second row. Work back toward the left, looping each peg again, creating a second row of loops on each peg.

    • 6). Pull the yarn straight down from the last peg that was wrapped. When working toward the left, always start wrapping on the left side. Pull the yarn down the left side of the last bottom peg, around the bottom and back up the right side, creating a second loop. Wrap the last peg at the top, starting on the left side. Work diagonally, top to bottom toward the left of the loom. Wrap the strand of yarn around the side peg several times to hold your work in place.

    • 7). Grab the bottom loop on the first peg with the loom pick. Pull the loop up and over the top loop and off the peg. Release the loop from the pick. Push the remaining loop down to the bottom of the peg, making room for another row of wrapping.

    • 8). Work along the loom, pulling all of the bottom loops off the pegs. Push each loop to the bottom. This completes the first row of knitting. As you work, the length of the scarf will grow out of the middle of the loom.

    • 9). Continue working back and forth, knitting rows to create your kid's scarf. Wrap one row to the right and another to the left. Pull the loops over the top to create a row. Push the remaining loops down. Wrap the loom again. Make as many rows as desired to reach the length of the scarf. End the knitting process with one row of loops on the pegs.

    • 10

Cut the strand of yarn, leaving a 12-inch tail.

    • 11

Pull the loop on the first top peg off the peg with the loom pick. Do not release the loop off the loom pick. Pull the loop from the first bottom peg and put it onto the loom pick.

    • 12

Pull the loop in the back over the front loop and off of the pick. Pull the strand of yarn, tightening the loop. Pull the loop off the second top peg and onto the pick. Pull the back loop over the front and off of the pick. This process ties the end together using the loops from your knitting.

    • 13

Continue pulling the loops off of the pegs and knitting them together, using your loom pick. Work from top to bottom, diagonally to the right to finish. Keep the last loop on your loom pick.

    • 14

Pull the scarf out from the middle of the loom. Weave the tail in and out of the stitches along the edge of the scarf, working it toward the last loop.

    • 15

Push the tail of yarn through the loop. Tie off the yarn. Weave the remaining portion of the tail into the stitches on the scarf.
