How to Make Fairy Wings With Wire

Doll Fairy Wings

1). Pick the doll you want to build wings for. For this example the doll will be 6 inches tall.
2). Cut 7 inches of 6-inch wide wire ribbon. This ribbon is available with fairies printed on it or in solid colors.
3). Fold one end over by 2 inches. Fold the other end over by 1 1/2 inches. Pinch the ribbon and ends together and wrap with floral wire. You should have a larger top wing and a smaller bottom wing. Repeat for a second set of wings.
4). Select pipe cleaner wire that matches your wing color. Fold the pipe cleaner in half and twist the ends together. Find the center of the pipe cleaner wires and twist them around the floral wires of both wings. Bend your pipe cleaners so they can wrap around the body of the doll securely.
5). Shape your wings by bending and shaping the wire of both the edge of the ribbon and the mesh of the ribbon. Use round-nosed pliers to create very strong, butterfly-like wing shapes.

1). Cut 9-gauge aluminum wire 13 feet in length. Bend the wire in half to form a small loop.
2). Position the loop toward you so that one wire end is going off to the right and one to the left. Measure 6 inches from the loop for the wire going off to the right and make a bend. Call that bend A.
3). Form a large loop with the wire going off to the right. Measure 8 inches from the end of the right side wire and twist the wire around bend A so that you have an 8-inch wire end.
4). Position the loop toward you and measure 6 inches from the loop for the wire going off to the left and make a bend. Call that bend B. Form a large loop with the wire. Measure 8 inches from the end of the left side wire and twist the wire around bend B so that you have a second 8-inch wire end. Twist your two wire ends together. You should see two large wire loop wings and a triangle shape and loop in the middle. Shape your wings to the shape you like.
5). Duct tape any protruding wires for comfort and safety. Pull a white nylon or stocking over the wire wing shape and tie it off in the center at the triangle. Do this for each wing. Cut 4 feet of ribbon. Fold the ribbon in half. Stick the loop of the ribbon through the wire loop. Bring the ends of the ribbon through the ribbon loop.
