How to Send a Serial Command

    • 1). Connect the serial console cable to the electronic device and the computer. If the computer does not have a nine-pin serial port, use a serial to USB converter.

    • 2). Click "Start" and "Search." Type "hypertrm.exe" and press "Enter." Double click on the "Hyper Terminal" icon. Give a name for your connection.

    • 3). Click on the "connect using" button. Click on the "Com Port" drop-down menu and select the required port. The port differs based on the device connected.

    • 4). Select "Bits per Second" and select the settings suitable to the router or other electronic device. The details can be found in the specifications of the device or from the manufacturer.

    • 5). Adjust the "Data bits" and the "Flow control" settings as per the specifications.

    • 6). In the same way, click on the "Parity" button. Select the value that is specified in the "Stop bits" specification. Click "Apply" and "OK."

    • 7). Click on "Enter" and the command prompt box will appear. Type the commands or programs in this box. The commands given here are sent to the router or other electronic devices attached to the computer.
