- 1). Join a workgroup in Windows 7 to network with earlier computers. Click "Start," then right-click "Computer" and click "Properties." Click "Change settings," enter your password and hit "Enter." Check "Workgroup" and then choose a name for your workgroup. Windows Vista default is "WORKGROUP" and Windows XP (and earlier) default is "MSHOME." Choose a new name if you wish. Click "OK."
- 2). Join the same workgroup with Windows Vista computers. Click "Start," then "Control Panel," then "System and Maintenance" and then "System." Click "Change settings." Check "Workgroup" and then enter your workgroup name. Click "OK."
- 3). Join the same workgroup with Windows XP computers. Click "Start" and then "Control Panel." Click "System." Click "Change." Click "Workgroup" and then enter your workgroup name. Click "OK."
- 4). Join the same workgroup with Windows 2000 computers. Right-click "My Computer" and then "Properties." Click "Properties." Check "Workgroup" and then type the workgroup name. Press "Enter" twice and restart your computer.
