- 1). Place a blank stencil sheet on a work surface. Draw a design onto the sheet. Determine what areas of the design you want to paint onto the skate deck and what areas should be left as a void in the design. Lightly shade the areas of the stencil to be cut out.
- 2). Erase any stray lines or corrected areas of the design prior to cutting to avoid cutting along the wrong lines.
- 3). Lay the stencil sheet on a cutting mat. Cut out the shaded areas of the design using a craft knife. Remove the shaded pieces from the design once they are cut out.
- 4). Spray the back of the stencil with a craft adhesive spray. Lay the back of the stencil on a scrap piece of cardboard.
- 5). Press the stencil down onto the cardboard. Evenly spray the stencil with spray paint. Allow the paint to dry at least four hours. Peel off the stencil. Evaluate the sprayed design. Place the stencil on a cutting mat and make any changes as necessary to complete the design. Test the stencil again on a scrap piece of cardboard before using it on a final project.
