- 1). Cut the yarn into pieces twice the length of your dread. Cut three pieces of each color.
- 2). Tie one piece of yarn around the base of your dread, next to your scalp, by making one knot.
- 3). Wrap the yarn around your dread in a spiral, covering the hair completely. Wrap the yarn to 1-inch above the bottom of your dread.
- 4). Thread a contrasting color bead on the yarn and continue to wrap the bottom 1-inch of the dread.
- 5). Double knot the yarn at the bottom of the dread and cut off any excess yarn.
- 6). Repeat Steps 2 to 5, wrapping every other dread with yarn. Spread the colors out, making your head an even distribution of the different colored yarn.
