- 1). Insert the startup floppy disk in the floppy drive of your computer.
- 2). Type "cmd" in the search box on Windows 7 or Vista, and then press "Enter." On Windows XP, click on "Start," click on "Run," type "cmd" in the "Run" dialog box and then press "Enter."
- 3). Type "format drive_letter:" at the command prompt and then press "Enter." Replace the "drive_letter" here with the drive letter of your floppy drive (for example, format a:).
