How to Close a PC Without Putting It Into Standby

    • 1). Click the "Start" button, type "power options" and click "Power Options" from the search results.

    • 2). Click the radio button next to "High Performance" to select this plan.

    • 3). Click "Change Plan Settings" to the right of "High Performance" to tweak this plan's settings if you want.

    • 4). Click the drop-down menus located to the right of "Put the Computer to Sleep" and select "Never" under both the "On Battery" and "Plugged In" columns. Although this does not directly activate when you close the lid, it will after a certain period of time.

    • 5). Click "Change Advanced Power Settings" at the bottom of the window.

    • 6). Click the "+" to expand the "Power Button and Lid" option in the Advanced Settings window and then expand the "Lid Close Action" option.

    • 7). Click this option's "On Battery" and "Plugged in" drop-down menus and select "Do Nothing."

    • 8). Click "OK" to close the Advanced Settings window.

    • 9). Click "Save Changes."
