How to Use Windows Vista Media Center

    Xbox Experience

    • 1). Link your Xbox 360 to your Windows Media Center. Once your Windows Media Center is connected to either a wired router or wireless router hub, you can link it to your Xbox 360. If you want (or have) a wired connection, insert an Ethernet cable into the back of the router and the other end into the port on the back of the Xbox. Another cable will need to be used to link the router to the PC. Follow the steps, as outlined above.

    • 2). Download the latest drivers and software, and run the software on your Windows Media Center. See Resources, below, for the correct software.

    • 3). Start your Xbox 360 and log into Xbox Live. Select "Media" and then "Windows Media Center." You will then be able to enjoy all the TV programs, movies, music and other media you have stored on your PC through your Xbox.

    Record and Watch TV

    • 1). Record television. Windows Media Center includes powerful tools to record television. To record a show you are already watching, click on the "Record" button (the small dot on the left of the channel control panel).

    • 2). Record upcoming programs. To record a show in the future, select "TV and Movies," select the show you want to record, and then right-click on the show you want recorded and select "Record." You will need an optional TV tuner card to watch or record TV.

    • 3). Navigate Windows Media with general shortcuts. In Windows Vista, the keyboard can be used to control the volume of your computer: F8 for mute, F9 for lower volume and F10 for higher volume. Also, your keyboard can open or close a program; Windows+Alt+Enter opens Windows Media Center and Alt+F4 closes it. See "Resources" below for more information on keyboard shortcuts.
