How to Identify the Cause of & Repair Error From Blue Screen

    Identifying the Cause

    • 1). Close unneeded programs on your system. When the computer runs too many programs, the computer's memory can freeze.

    • 2). Restart your computer and press "F8" repeatedly while the system boots up, but before Windows loads. Navigate with your keyboard errors to highlight "Safe Mode" and press "Enter." Wait for Windows to load into Safe Mode.

    • 3). Click "Start" and right-click "Computer." Click on "Properties" and select the "Device Manager option from the left-hand pane.

    • 4). Look down the list of your installed hardware for a yellow exclamation mark. This means that you have a bad driver for hardware installed on your system.

    • 5). Click "Start," type "msconfig" in the search box and press "Enter." Select the "Startup" tab and look over the list of installed programs that load on startup.

    • 6). Click to remove the check marks next to any programs that you don't need at startup. If you have too many programs that load at startup, this can cause a blue screen error at startup.

    Run Windows Update

    • 1). Restart your computer and wait for it to boot in Windows as normal.

    • 2). Click "Start," type "Windows Update" in the search box and press "Enter."

    • 3). Double-click on the "Update" icon from the menu that appears. Click on the "Check For Updates" icon on the left-hand side of the screen. Installing updates can help resolve issues with corrupt Microsoft programs that cause blue screen errors.

    • 4). Click to place check marks in the boxes next to the programs that have available updates. Click the "Install Updates" icon on the right-hand side of the menu and wait for the updates to install.

    • 5). Click the "Finish" button to finalize the installation. A window will appear on the screen when the updates finish installing. Follow prompts to restart your system.

    Run Startup Repair

    • 1). Restart your computer and press "F8" repeatedly while it restarts, but before Windows loads. The "Advanced Boot Options" menu appears on the screen.

    • 2). Navigate with your keyboard arrows to highlight "Repair Your Computer" if the menu does not highlight it by default. Press "Enter."

    • 3). Follow prompts to select language and keyboard layout from the menu that appears and click "Next."

    • 4). Click on the "Startup Repair" option on the "System Recovery Options" menu. Wait for the recovery console to repair your startup files.

    • 5). Follow prompts to click the "Restart" option after the scan completes. When the computer restarts, the system will be blue screen free.
