- 1). Run the Windows XP Sound Troubleshooter. This application could save you some time and help you identify the problem quickly. Click "Start" and select "Help and Support." Find the section labeled "Pick a Help Topic" and choose "Fixing a problem." Select "Games, sound and video problems" from the navigation pane on the left, then click "Sound Troubleshooter." Follow the step-by-step instructions to find the issue.
- 2). Download and install an update for your multimedia software. If a newer version is available, it might contain fixes for the audio stuttering you're experiencing.
- 3). Update your sound card drivers. You can visit Microsoft's Windows Update website (see Resources) and search for newer drivers. A newer sound card driver might offer better support for the applications your audio stutters in.
- 4). Add more RAM to your system. Stuttering sound might occur if you don't have enough memory on your computer. Consult your PC's user manual to determine the type of RAM your system uses and the proper way to install it.
