- The rosary is revered by Catholics as one of the most powerful forms of prayer. To encourage children to pray the rosary, give each child a coloring page with a picture of the rosary on it and a sheet of small stickers. Star stickers or dot stickers are affordable options for large groups. Pray one decade of the rosary together and have each child place a sticker over a bead on the coloring page as each Hail Mary is prayed. Send home the remaining stickers, so the children can continue the rosary with their families.
- For Catholics, the Communion of Saints is composed of both living and deceased believers. Holy souls already in Heaven join in petition with those on Earth as one community. To teach this concept, make this group craft and display it in the classroom. Print a large variety of saints coloring pages. Allow each child to choose a coloring page and an extra blank sheet of paper. Have the children draw a self portrait on the blank page. Hang the self portraits and the colored saints pages on a bulletin board in the classroom. At the top of the bulletin board, post the words "Lord, Hear our Prayers."
- The Miraculous Medal was given by Mary to St. Catherine Laboure. Catholics believe that graces and favors are bestowed on those who are devoted to it. Create a Miraculous Medal craft by printing the images from both sides of the medal. Print a set of images for each child and have the children color the images. Give each child a paper plate and allow them to glue one image on either side of the plate. Punch a hole in the top of the plate and thread a string of yarn through to create a loop for hanging the medal.
- When worn by Catholics, the Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a constant reminder to remain committed to Jesus and the Blessed Mother. Have children create a scapular craft out of brown construction paper, brown yarn and printouts of the scapular images. Print a set of small scapular images for each child. While children are coloring the images, cut small rectangles out of the construction paper to use as a background for the image printouts. Have children use a glue stick to attach the colored images to the construction paper. Use brown yarn to join the pieces into a scapular.
