- 1). Measure the height of the lampshade with the tape measure. Add 2 inches to that figure and make a note of the measurement on a piece of paper.
- 2). Measure the diameter of the top and bottom of the lampshade with the tape measure. Multiply each diameter by 3.14 separately to calculate the circumferences, and then add 1 inch to each circumference.
- 3). Cut a piece of chicken wire to the height and bottom circumference of the lampshade with the wire cutters.
- 4). Subtract the circumference of the top from the circumference of the bottom. Divide the resulting number by 2. Measure the top of the cut piece of chicken wire and subtract this amount from each end. Mark those spots with the felt tip marker.
- 5). Cut the chicken wire from the bottom edge to the mark on the top.
- 6). Wrap the chicken wire around the lampshade. Bend a cut end at the bottom of the chicken wire to hold the two ends together.
- 7). Fold the top part of the chicken wire over the top of the lampshade. Make a cut with the wire cutters, if needed, to fold the chicken wire.
- 8). Lift the chicken wire frame off of the lampshade. Bend all of the cut ends of the chicken wire to finish securing the ends.
- 9). Measure the width of the top opening of the lampshade. Cut two strips of chicken wire that are about 1-inch wide. Attach the two pieces to the top of the lampshade in a "+" shape. This will support the lampshade on the lamp.
- 10
Measure and cut a piece of fabric with the scissors to match the lampshade height and circumference. - 11
Position the fabric over the chicken wire frame. Apply a bead of hot glue along the edge where the ends overlap. Apply an additional bead of hot glue, if needed. - 12
Apply hot glue to the back of the excess fabric at the top of the frame. Fold the fabric over the top. Repeat this step for the excess fabric on the bottom.
