- 1). Log on to your PC computer with an account that has administrative privileges.
- 2). Open the Start menu and click on the "Run" button.
- 3). Type "regedit" into the text box and hit "Enter."
- 4). Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\WPAEvents section of your computer's registry database.
- 5). Right-click on the "OOBETimer" entry and choose "Modify."
- 6). Change any of the digits in the pop-up window and then click "OK." The old Windows XP Professional key has now been deactivated.
- 7). Type "%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a" into the "Run" text box and hit "Enter."
- 8). Click "Next" and then select the "Change Product Key" option.
- 9). Type in the new Windows XP Professional key and hit "Update."
