- 1). Launch System Information from the Start menu by going to "Programs" followed by "Accessories" and then "System Tools."
- 2). Expand the "Software Environment" item found on the left pane by clicking the small plus icon in front of it.
- 3). Click the "Startup Programs" item to see a complete list of programs that run on startup. Examine the list for needless items by looking at all the columns. For example, there might be an instant messenger program currently set to run at startup that you no longer need to do so.
