- 1). Select the components for your potpourri and place them in a bowl. Decide on a color or decorative theme to help narrow your choices, or choose items that coordinate with the stick incense you plan to use. For instance, if you are using lavender incense, choose dried lavender and other dried petals for a cottage garden themed potpourri or dried lavender, olive tree leaves and sunflower petals for a Tuscan theme.
- 2). Scrape the incense stick with a paring knife to remove the scented powder. Sprinkle it over the other potpourri items. Add one stick of incense for each cup of dried ingredients.
- 3). Stir the potpourri until all the ingredients are incorporated. Add a few drops of essential oil if you prefer a stronger scent. Place your finished potpourri in an airtight container, such as a jar, and allow the mixture to set for a few weeks so the scent of the incense can permeate the other components. Shake the jar daily to stir the ingredients.
- 4). Display the finished potpourri in a decorative container. Keep any leftover mixture in the airtight container and store it in the refrigerator to keep the scents fresh.
