- 1). Allow Windows to automatically adjust the colors in your computer. To do this, go to the Control Panel and then double-click on the "System" icon. Click the "Advanced" tab and click the "Settings" button under the "Performance" section.
- 2). Click on the tick box for "Adjust for Best Appearance." You will notice that some of the check boxes will automatically be selected. Ensure that the check box for "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" is selected, and then click "OK."
- 3). Set the right number of colors for your screen to fix the color quality. Load the Control Panel and click on "Display." Select the "Settings" tab and drag the "Screen Resolution" controller to the maximum level. Also set the "Color Quality" to "Highest 32 Bit" to generate the best display quality. Click "Apply" and then "OK." If the highest option is "16 Bit," you may need to install or update the video card in your computer (proceed to steps 3 and 4). If not, your computer screen should be functioning properly. Reboot the computer if necessary.
- 4). Run the installation CD or DVD that comes with the video card. Place it in your optical drive or CD/DVD-ROM and wait for the device driver to launch automatically. Follow the instructions and reboot the computer when installation is completed.
- 5). Update the video card by clicking on "Start" and then "Run." Type "devmgmt.msc" to load the "Device Manager" window. Click the plus sign beside "Display Adapters" to expand the menu. Right-click on the name of your video card and click "Update Driver." Follow the instructions given by the "Update Hardware Wizard" until the update process is successfully completed. Reboot the computer.
