- 1). Turn on your Mac Pro. There is a power button on the front of the machine. Press that button until an Apple logo appears on your monitor.
- 2). Insert your Apple start-up CD into the optical drive of your Mac Pro. The optical drive is simply a combination CD and DVD-ROM drive.
- 3). Restart your Mac Pro. Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner of the screen and and select "Restart," which is located near the bottom of the list of options.
- 4). Wait for your computer to fully shut down and the monitor screen to go blank. Immediately when the computer has shut down, hold down the "C" key on your keyboard.
- 5). Keep holding the "C" key until the Apple logo appears. The computer will now treat your CD as the start-up device, instead of the computer's hard drive.
