- 1). Select the size of the cardboard box for the gift or item you intend to place inside.
- 2). Design your patterns or use templates available online to cut the cardboard into your desired shapes. Using the razor-blade knife, score each piece of cardboard about halfway through to ensure sharp creases where the folds will be made. Be careful not to cut through the cardboard to prevent holes in the creases.
- 3). Measure each cardboard piece to determine the size of each piece of decorative paper or tissue needed. You can also use the cardboard pieces as patterns to cut the paper. Cut the decorative and tissue paper to the shapes you measured.
- 4). Assemble the cardboard pieces to create the components of the box. Attach the pieces together using glue where the seam will be visible. Use scotch tape where the seams are not visible and as reinforcement to prevent the seams from collapsing.
- 5). Cover all exposed cardboard with the precut decorative and tissue paper. Apply a small amount of glue to hold the pieces in place using a cotton swab. Tuck the edges of the paper into place on the inside corners of the box using the letter opener.
