If you chose to download, the serial number should have been emailed to you. If you purchased a hard copy of VMware Fusion, the serial number will be printed on a documentation form located in the box.
- 3). Run VMware Fusion for the first time. The first time that you launch VMware it will ask you if you want to register. It is fine to skip this option for now. Click the skip button to proceed to the next screen. This screen will ask you to enter your VMware Fusion serial number. Enter it and click the continue button. There should now only be one VMware Fusion window on your desktop. It will be labeled "Virtual Machine Library". If there are any other windows open, close them for now.
- 4). Setup a new virtual machine. In order to install Windows XP, you will need to setup a new virtual machine so that VMware Fusion can automatically install it. If you used a disc installation to install VMware, eject it from your drive. Now, insert the Windows XP Install disc and wait for your MacBook to recognize it. From the first drop down menu, select "Windows". From the second drop down menu, select "XP Home or XP Professional" depending on which one you are installing. The final setup screen will prompt you to enter a username and password. Enter a username and password that you can easily remember and make sure there is a checkmark in both boxes. Click continue. On the next screen, read over everything to make sure it is how you want it, and click finish.
- 5). Install Windows XP. Windows XP should now automatically start installing itself through VMware Fusion. If you have ever installed Windows XP on a PC, you will be familiar with the installation process. It can take up to 45 minutes for Windows XP to copy necessary files to your hard drive and setup. Throughout the Windows installation process, you may need to enter your Windows XP serial number. Let this procedure finish completely before doing anything else on your MacBook.
