- 1). Launch the Ares file sharing program and check the connection status. To do so, check for the word "Online" on the status bar. If you do not see "Online" you have have firewall problems or do not have the latest version.
- 2). Verify your version by checking the top left corner. If you do not see "Ares 3.1.5.3037," it means you do not have the latest version. Download and install the latest version (see Resources). If you are still having connection problems, move to the next step to add the program into the firewall exceptions list.
- 3). Click the Windows "Start" button and click the "Control Panel." Double-click "Firewall' to open the firewall settings window.
- 4). Click the "Exceptions" tab and make sure there is a check on Ares. If there isn't one, place a check on it to prevent the firewall from blocking the connections. Close the firewall settings.
- 5). Add Ares into the exception's list of any third-party security programs (e.g. Internet security program) you have installed on your computer. How to perform this action varies with different security programs; therefore refer to your programs operating manual.
- 6). Launch Ares and verify the connection status again. You should now be able to connect and search for the content you want.
