- 1). Chain two stitches using the white yarn. Single crochet six in the first chain. This is what is called the first round. Because this is a circular patter - in other words, there is no seam - you work in rounds instead of rows. For round two, single crochet two in each single crochet around. Fasten off. This makes one eye. Repeat the entire step a second time for the second eye.
- 2). Chain two using black yarn. Single crochet six in the first chain. Single crochet two in each single crochet around. Single crochet two in next single crochet, single crochet in next two crochets, repeat around. Single crochet two in next single crochet, single crochet in next three crochets, repeat around. Continue this pattern of increasing by one until you complete a round of single crochet in next five single crochets.
- 3). Single crochet in each crochet for the next four rounds. Switch to the white yarn on the last stitch. Single crochet in each crochet in white for the next six rounds. Next, crochet two together, single crochet in next five crochets and repeat around. Crochet two together, single crochet in next four crochets and repeat around. Crochet two together, single crochet in next three crochets and repeat around. At this point, sew the eyes from Step 1 onto the body portion, thus far, of the penguin. Then sew on the button eyes in the center of each white eye circle. Continue crocheting the penguin body.
- 4). Crochet two together, single crochet in next two crochets, repeat around. Begin stuffing the body. Crochet two together, single crochet in next crochet stitch, repeat around. Continue stuffing. Crochet two together around. Stuff penguin to desired plumpness and fasten off, leaving several inches of tail.
- 5). Chain two in orange yarn. Single crochet six in first chain. Single crochet two in each crochet stitch around. For the next two rounds single crochet each stitch around. Fasten off. This completes one foot. Repeat entire step for the second foot.
- 6). Chain two in black yarn. Single crochet six in first chain. Single crochet two in each crochet stitch around. Single crochet two in next crochet, single crochet in next crochet stitch and repeat around. Single crochet two in next crochet, single crochet in next two crochet stitches, repeat around. Fasten off. This makes one wing. Repeat entire step for the second wing.
- 7). Chain two using the orange yarn. Single crochet six in the first chain. Single crochet two in each single crochet stitch around. Single crochet two in next single crochet stitch, single crochet in next crochet stitch and repeat around. Fasten off. This is the penguin's beak.
- 8). Fold the beak section in half, add a little stuffing and sew it closed. Sew the beak onto the body. Add a little stuffing to the feet and sew to the body. Sew on both of the wings to complete your amigurumi baby penguin.
