How to Make an Ancient Chariot

    Wheels

    • 1). Cut four discs from modeling plywood with a 1-inch bore bit and two discs with a 1/2-inch bit. Sand down the rough rims until they are smooth. Drill a small hole through the center of each disc with a 1/16-inch drill bit.

    • 2). Thread the 1-inch discs onto the center of the axle and bond with cyanoacrylate. Grid one side down to create a flat surface the discs can rest on without rolling.

    • 3). Draw and cut two 3-inch diameter discs with a jigsaw. Locate the center of each disc and draw a circle 1 inch from the center using an architect's compass. Between the edge of the circle you just drew and the rim of the disc, bore four circles equidistant from each other with the 1/2-inch bit. Sand the inside of each hole.

    • 4). Remove both ends of a 3-inch diameter can using a can opener. Remove the bent metal edge with tin snips and wash both pieces. Use a propane torch to make the can lids pliable and mount them onto the wheels you created in the previous step. Bore a hole through the center of the wheel with the 1/16-inch dill bit.

    • 5). Slide the wheels on the axle on either side of the 1-inch disc row. Replace the 1/2-inch discs. Drive metal craft pins through the 1/2-inch wheel hubs into the wheels and secure the pieces together with cyanoacrylate.

    Bassinet

    • 1). Mark and cut a 3-by-1-inch rectangle to serve as the floor of your chariot. Attach it to the disc row with wood glue.

    • 2). Draw two identical 2-inch square panels from model plywood. Round one end of each panel and position as the top of your chariot's side walls. Place on each side edge of the floor and mount with wood glue.

    • 3). Cut a 1-inch square piece of plywood. Round the top slightly and attach with wood glue to the front of the chariot.

    • 4). Mount a 2-inch long section of dowel rod to the front center of the bassinet to serve as a rest post when the chariot is on display, or bore a small hole through the end furthest from the chariot and thread to attach to a model horse.
