- 1). Turn the bar stool over with the cushion area sitting flush on the floor. Slide the edge of a butter knife under one of the staples and pull up until the staple pulls loose. Work your way around the bar stool, removing each of the staples. Pull on the side of the cushion, pulling the fabric or covering and cushion off the stool.
- 2). Flip the bar stool over with the seat facing up. Place the stool on the newspaper. Remove the padding or foam cushion from the fabric. Apply a thin layer of the spray adhesive to the surface of the seat. Press the foam cushion onto the wood until the adhesive sets.
- 3). Measure the height and width of the cushion and add 1.5 inches to all sides, which compensates for the seam at the bottom. Purchase a new piece of fabric and cut to that size. The fabric will serve as the new covering for the barstool.
- 4). Spray more of the adhesive to the top of the barstool cushion. Place the fabric on top, evenly spreading the fabric over the cushion. Smooth your hands over the top of the cushion, removing any wrinkles and letting the adhesive touch the fabric.
- 5). Grab the barstool and turn it upside down. Pull on one side of the fabric, tugging it down until it smoothly covers the side of the stool. Use a staple gun and place one staple through the fabric and into the wood. Do the same on the opposite side. Work your way around the stool, tugging on the fabric and stapling it into place until you cover the stool.
