- 1). Put on old clothes before beginning to recover your silver plate. Tarnish will not come out of fabric.
- 2). Dip the flannel square into the silver polish paste. Gently rub the silver plate in a circular motion. Continue until all of the plate is covered in silver polish.
- 3). Fill the sink with hot water and place the rubber mat in the bottom of it. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of boric acid for every gallon of hot water. Place the silver plate in the water.
- 4). Submerge the plate for 10 minutes. Give the plate a final rinse in warm water with a drop of mild dish detergent in it. Set the plate on a dish towel for five to 10 minutes before towel drying.
- 5). Repeat steps 2 through 4 if the tarnish is not completely gone after your first polishing.
