- 1). Click the Windows 7 "Start" button and enter "GPEDIT.MSC" into the search text box. Press "Enter" to open your policy editor.
- 2). Click "User Configuration" on the left side of the pane. This reveals several options. Click "Administrative Templates" and then "System."
- 3). Double-click "Prevent Access to Registry Editing Tools" in the center settings window. Select "Enable" to prevent access to the registry. To enable access to the registry editor, select "Disabled."
- 4). Click "OK" to save your settings. Reboot the machine for the changes to take effect.
