- 1). Remove soot from the surface of the wood furniture with a soft scrub brush. Sweep the soot into a dustpan and discard in the trash.
- 2). Pour 1 gallon warm water into a bucket. Add two caps full of wood soap and 1/4 cup baking soda to deodorize the fire soot odor.
- 3). Dip a clean sponge in the soap and baking soda solution. Squeeze out excess moisture.
- 4). Wash the surface of the wood furniture to remove any remaining soot stains and deodorize soot odor. Rinse the sponge frequently to wash away the soot. Apply more soap and baking soda solution to the sponge and continue to clean.
- 5). Wipe the furniture off with a damp cloth to remove baking soda residue. Dry the wood furniture with another cloth.
- 6). Set the wood furniture outside on an old sheet for two to three hours to allow the fresh air to further deodorize the wood. Alternatively, you can position the furniture by an open window.
- 7). Buff the wood with wood polish to restore moisture.
