- 1). Spool your rod with heavy test line, at least 15 lb test. Then seek out a good, decent Grouper fish hole. Grouper love ship wrecks, ledges and rocky areas that provide cover and ambush areas, so search accordingly.
- 2). Rig your rod with a steel leader at least 12 inches long and a 3/0 hook. Attach an egg sinker to the line to get it down to the depth of your chosen grouper fish hole.
- 3). Attach a ribbon fish onto your hook and cast the bait into the water so it sinks to the bottom of the hole. Make sure the bait is near rocky ledges and cover.
- 4). Wait for a strike. Once you get a few hits, through chum into the water and then rig your hook with a live shrimp, clams, or another dead bait. You will find that grouper fishing requires a little "jump starting" with dead baits and live baits until the Grouper and other fish begin to feed.
