- The HP ZE4942 notebook computer is a feature-packed device designed for people who need a little bit of everything in their laptop. While none of the components may be considered cutting-edge, even when the laptop was released, it includes almost every possible feature that was available for a laptop at the time.
- The HP Pavilion ZE4942 measures 12.96 inches long, 10.72 inches wide and is 1.69 inches high when closed. It also weighs in at 6.7 pounds. The screen that flips up is a 15-inch TFT LCD that runs at a maximum resolution of 1024-by-768. The ZE4942 comes with a 65W AC power adapter, along with a 6-Cell Lithium-Ion battery.
- The HP Pavilion ZE4942 comes with an Intel Celeron Mobile Processor 360 running at 1.4 GHz. The processor has one megabyte of Level 2 Cache memory on the chip itself. The laptop comes with two 256 MB DDR SDRAM chips installed, for a total of 512 MB of RAM. Each RAM slot can be upgraded to hold a 512 MB chip. The RAM on the laptop runs at 266 MHz.
- The integrated graphics card on the laptop is an Intel Extreme Graphics 2 chip. There is 64 MB of video RAM on the graphics chip. The sound on the ZE4942 is controlled by a 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro chipset. The sound is played on two internal Altec Lansing speakers and there is a volume button and a mute button on the laptop itself.
- There is a 40 GB hard drive inside the ZE4942, which runs at 4200 RPM. It also has a 24X DVD/CD-RW drive to play optical discs. While the laptop doesn't come with a floppy drive, HP offers an external floppy that you can purchase. On the side of the laptop you can insert a Type I/II 32-bit memory card.
- The HP ZE4942 comes with both fax/modem and a network card. The modem is a high speed 56k model with an RJ-11 port. The network card is both a 10/100BASE-T Ethernet card with an RJ-45 port and an 802.11 b/g WLAN wireless network card. In addition to the networking ports, the laptop has a 15-pin video port, a headphone jack, a microphone jack, two USB ports and a PS/2 port.
- The ZE4942 comes with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, with Service Pack 2 installed. It also includes Norton Antivirus with free updates for 60 days. The laptop comes with several multimedia applications like Sonic RecordNow, InterVideo WinDVD, Muvee autoProducer, HP Image Zone Plus and Apple iTunes. For productivity purposes the laptop comes with Microsoft Works, Microsoft Money, MSN Encarta Plus, MS Zones.com and a 60-day trial of Microsoft Office 2003.
