- 1). Turn over your laptop so it is bottom side up and rest it on a soft and stable surface, such as a couch or a blanket that has been laid on a table. Lay your laptop so the fan is nearest you. The fan is located underneath the rectangular shaped set of slots that form a circle. Turn off your computer before removing any panels.
- 2). Remove the battery. The battery is located at the top right hand corner of your laptop. There is a thin, ridged, rectangular panel which is the outer portion of your battery. Using your thumbs, gently press down on the panel and push outwards, away from the body of the laptop. You will feel a slight pop, which indicates that your battery has released from its locking mechanism. Pull the battery completely out of its slot and set it aside.
- 3). Remove the screws near the hard drive. The hard drive is located at the top of your laptop, which is the side pointing farthest away from you. There are two screws located within a thin, rectangular panel, which is where the hard drive is located. Using your screwdriver, remove these screws. Lift the hard drive panel away from the body of your computer and set it aside.
- 4). Remove all remaining screws. There are 11 remaining screws: 8 surrounding the edge of the laptop and 3 in the middle. Using your screwdriver, remove the outer screws first and the middle screws last.
- 5). Remove the protective panel from the underside of your laptop. Gently pull upwards, remove the entire back panel of your computer and it set aside. To replace the panel, assemble the parts in the reverse order.
