- 1). Connect the external card reader to your computer using the cable supplied by the manufacturer, if necessary. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on how to install the card reader if you haven't already done so.
- 2). Insert the SD card into your card reader. The auto-play window appears.
- 3). Click the "Import Pictures and Videos Using Windows" option from the dialog box. The "Import Pictures and Videos" dialog box appears.
- 4). Click "Import Settings" in the lower left corner of the screen. By default, Windows imports all images to the "My Pictures" folder. If you'd like to import them to a different location, click the "Browse" button located beside the "Import Images To" field and select the desired folder.
- 5). Click the drop-down arrows beside "Folder Name" and "File Name" to select the way you want Windows to name the folder created to store the imported pictures and the way you want to name the actual imported images.
- 6). Click to select or deselect the check boxes located under "Other Options."
- 7). Click "OK" to save your settings and return to the "Import" dialog box. If you would like to undo your changes and return to the default settings, click the "Restore Defaults" button before clicking "OK."
- 8). Type a tag for the pictures, if desired. For example, type "First Birthday" for pictures taken at your child's first birthday party. Windows will apply this tag to all the pictures you import at this time according to your import settings you previously set.
- 9). Click the "Import" button on the lower right corner of the screen to import the pictures.

- 2). Insert the SD card into your card reader. Click the "Open Folder to View Files" option from the auto-play dialog box. If the window does not appear, click "Start" and "Computer," then double-click the icon representing your card reader.
- 3). Select the pictures you want to transfer. You can click to select an individual picture or select multiple pictures by pressing the "Ctrl" key down as you click. To select all pictures on the card, press the "Shift" key down, click the first picture and then click the last picture listed.
- 4). Transfer the selected pictures by dragging them to the icon representing the desired folder on your hard drive. Alternatively, use the cut and paste commands.
