- 1). Look over the handwoven Oriental rugs; if you see speckled spots, it is probably a result of mildew.
- 2). Carry the rug outside and brush the fibers with a stiff nylon brush to remove the mildew spores.
- 3). Drape the handwoven Oriental rug over a clothesline on a day when no rain is forecast. This allows the rug to air out, and the sunshine helps dry any remaining moisture.
- 4). Vacuum the rug well once it is back in place.
- 1). Sprinkle a generous layer of baking soda onto the handwoven Oriental rug.
- 2). Allow the baking soda to sit for a few hours or even overnight.
- 3). Vacuum the rug thoroughly. The musty odor should disappear.
